Forecasters are sending mixed messages about exactly what will be falling out of the sky this weekend, but they seem to agree that this will be a wintry weekend in northeast Missouri and western Illinois.

A hazardous weather outlook statement issued by the National Weather Service Friday morning talks about the possibility of freezing rain and sleet for the area Friday night. However, the specific forecast for the Hannibal/Quincy area talks about rain and sleet, with no mention of freezing rain.

Rain is the only precipitation in the forecast for Saturday, with rain and snow on tap for Saturday night, ending with flurries Sunday morning. The best guesses for snow accumulation totals stand at about an inch for the area.

After the snow clears out, the temperature will take a nosedive, with arctic cold moving into the area Sunday night.
