If you've ever tried to take a picture of lightning, you know it's difficult and potentially dangerous. One Wisconsin guy did it the safe and successful way and captured an incredible lighting display as it happened over southern Wisconsin just a few days ago.

We knew that there would be a decent chance of thunderstorms across Missouri and Illinois over the Memorial Day weekend, but suddenly there is talk of tornado and hail danger due to ever-changing atmospheric developments.

My hope is for you to have a fun and safe Memorial Day Weekend. You should know that if you live in Missouri or Illinois that weather over the holiday weekend could become dangerous with conditions right for explosive storm development.

Let's hope the robots are wrong. Artificial intelligence programs from universities are predicting tornadoes and derechos for Missouri and Illinois Tuesday. Some forecasters do agree.

The good news is that the horrific thunderstorm pattern that caused immense tornado damage to many parts of Missouri and other parts of the Midwest is likely over for now. The potentially bad news is that parts of Missouri might still see explosive thunderstorm development the last week of May.

Missouri has already had its fair share of thunderstorms and the pattern that has been prevalent the past couple of weeks doesn't look to change anytime soon. Missouri and especially the middle of the state is in the danger zone for a major lighting event soon.

It's expected to be another volatile weather day for Missouri again today as models and forecasts show hurricane-force winds and tornadoes very well could impact parts of the state today.

Missouri has already been pounded by some large hail storms in 2024, but none have yet rivaled what fell nearly 20 years ago. It was a storm that dropped the largest hail ever recorded in the state featuring a mammoth size that dwarfed what you'd find on a softball field.

The old saying about March in Missouri "in like a lamb and out like a lion" may very well come true after all based on new forecasts from meteorologists.

There are two things you need to know. First of all, this is not an April Fool's joke. Second, this is also not an official forecast - yet. But, there an experimental model from the forecasters does show a strong possibility that Missouri could see dangerous storm development on Monday, April 1.
