This is called the Enhanced Money Match program from the Illinois Treasurer’s office and it apparently matches up information in their database with unclaimed things.

The grand total for all of the checks to be sent out is $13.2 million. Cha-ching.

Don't get too excited about becoming suddenly rich. The check amounts will reportedly be between $50 and $100 dollars, but still that's money that many didn't know they had coming.
