Why You Should Never Ever Talk on Phone When Shopping in Missouri
I'm probably not the person to be lecturing other people on etiquette. Yes, I was born and raised in Missouri and that's part of the problem. There's a good reason why people like me should never ever talk on the phone while shopping in a store and there's a bigger problem than just manners.
I probably should pay more attention to the "do unto others as you'd like them to do unto you" verse in the Bible. I get annoyed when I'm trying to get a shopping mission done and someone's leisurely talking on their smartphone and standing right in front of the one item I need to complete my list.
Let me just confess right now that I've done this and I've repented of my phone sins. I'll try to never do it again. Here's why.
Reader's Digest mentioned more than a dozen places you should never talk on your phone and the store is one of them. Along with the potential for being rude to others as I mentioned above, you could be putting you and/or your kids in danger. The writer points out that if you're focused on a conversation, you might not notice someone stalking you or your family. That's especially a problem if you have young kids with you as they could be a target.
This very question became a long conversation on Reddit. Talking on your phone while shopping is considered rude by many.

I would like to emphasize that I'm not the etiquette police and I'm sure I've been guilty of this more times than I realize, but talking on your phone while shopping is probably something that should be on the "Don't" list.
