Winter has been both mild and slightly weird so far. Wednesday will be another great example of that as both Missouri and Illinois could see some very strong storms and maybe even a twister or two as a system makes its way through the Midwest.

This alert comes the NOAA Storm Prediction Center. They've just placed both Missouri and Illinois under the slight risk for severe storms beginning Wednesday. Oh, by the way, some of this storm fun could begin overnight from Tuesday into early Wednesday, too.

As you can see, northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois are right in the middle of all that. You can also see on this map that the risk for tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Let's be clear that there are no strong tornadoes expected if any happen at all. What is most likely to happen is we'll see a ton of rain (maybe a couple inches) and high wind. The wind strength is also an unknown, but plan for the worst and hope for the best. The Storm Prediction Center says that we can expect (and I quote) "damaging winds as the main severe risk, a brief tornado cannot be ruled out".

We'll see how this plays out, but the bottom line is to keep your eye on clouds and incoming weather as this system moves through the area Wednesday.
