United Van Lines just shared their 46th annual national movers study that's full of data about what states people are moving to, leaving and the many reasons why. Before I did into the specific Missouri numbers, here's their national map. It lets you choose the state and see the reasoning behind it.

Let's look at Missouri specifically. Here are the percentages of residents moving into and out of the Show Me State.

As you can see, more retirees choose to leave Missouri than move into it. Those moving in and out of the state for job-related reasons are evenly split. In simplest terms, the main reasons people move into Missouri have to do with family and saving money while those that leave are choosing a different lifestyle than the state offers.

As we shared a couple weeks ago, the recent census saw Illinois lose more residents than just about any other state in America. The United Van Lines study showed interesting data about why that's the case.

Once again, retirement and lifestyle obviously play a big role about why people are leaving Illinois.

The takeaway? When it comes to choosing to relocate to or from Missouri and Illinois, it's just like the relationship status for many on Facebook. It's complicated.
