The storm threat over Missouri appears to be increasing this weekend as forecasters have escalated the alert level with tornadoes and hail possible.

You might recall that yesterday NOAA's Storm Prediction Center only had Missouri under a slight risk of weekend storms. Today is a totally different story as there is now a huge swath of the state that is now under a marginal risk and that includes the Kansas City, Missouri area.

You can learn more about the specific dangers of incoming storms by reading the meteorologist discussions. Here's what NOAA's Storm Prediction forecasters had to say about what could happen Saturday:

"The moderate instability and strong deep-layer shear will promote supercells and bowing segments capable of producing some severe wind and hail. A tornado is also possible with the longer-lived, dominant supercells."

I would not be surprised if this advisory is escalated again Saturday as more accurate data comes in as storm systems begin to develop. At the very least, expect a strong wind and hail event as storms make their way across Missouri Saturday. It may not impact all of the state, but the western and north-central part of Missouri seems most likely to see some type of severe weather this weekend. It's another day when having multiple ways to receive severe weather alerts would be a good idea if you're in the path of these expected storms.
