Missouri Winner of Nearly $1B Still Hasn’t Claimed the Prize
There's something odd happening involving the near record-setting Powerball drawing that resulted in a winning ticket being picked up in Missouri. As of now, no one has stepped forward to claim this nearly $1 billion dollar prize.
Last weekend, someone in Missouri bought the winning Powerball ticket now worth $893.7 million dollars
The Missouri Lottery confirmed the winning ticket was purchased at 12110 Lusher Road in St. Louis, Missouri, but here's what's unusual. As of the date of this writing, the Missouri Lottery now has this mammoth prize listed on their Unclaimed Prizes page.
There are two possible explanations for what's going on.
1. The Powerball winner in Missouri is lining up lawyers and accountants and possibly even private security before they disclose their identity.
2. They legitimately don't know they just won nearly $1 billion dollars.

It's that second possibility which is fascinating. Is it really possible that someone could have picked up a winning Powerball ticket now worth $893.7 million dollars and not know it? Lottery prizes go unclaimed all the time. As a matter of fact, there's a $50,000 prize that will expire in less than two weeks in Missouri.
Whoever the winner is has these two options:
- Lump sum of just over $410 million dollars
- 30 payments of $893.5 million paid in annual
That is assuming that they know they won and come forward to claim the prize. The state of Missouri does allow lottery winners to remain anonymous, but it looks like to me that no one has come forward - yet.
