Missouri Metro Just Named 1 of America’s Most Stressed Cities
Someone needs to lighten up just a little bit. There's one Missouri metro area that has just been ranked among the most stressful places in America.
There's a new survey from a psychiatric association that asked people about their stress levels in a number of different areas of their lives that included 4 major categories: Work, Financial, Family and Health. Wallethub has shared the results which listed the top 182 cities according to their stress level. The smaller the dot on their map, the higher the stress level. Notice one Missouri city in particular is a tiny dot.
Their data shows that St. Louis, Missouri is the 14th most stressed city in America overall and it's ranked even higher is certain categories. The Gateway City is in pretty good shape when it comes to family stress ranked in the 70's, but money is a major worry point for St. Louisans as the city is ranked 6th in America for financial stress. This is odd to me as the cost of living in St. Louis is lower than most other cities that size in the United States.
Health and safety is also a big problem in St. Louis as the city ranks 15th most stressful in that category. All the pundits that love referring to the city as the "murder capital" will likely jump all over that.
The hectic pace of St. Louis likely doesn't help the stress level. Anyone that has to drive 270 regularly in the big city can attest to that. Still, St. Louis ranks as much more stressful than I would have expected which kind of stresses me out. Ironic.
