There is a new health alert from the government and it affects a large amount of ground beef that has been widely available in Illinois. The ground beef is being pulled from shelves due to a contamination risk of E. Coli.

This bulletin was just shared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service. It says "the raw ground beef item was produced on May 22, 2025, and May 23, 2025" and was sent to Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois and Maryland. The beef tested positive for E. coli O157:H7. John's Hopkins Medicine says this strain "causes a severe intestinal infection in humans".

What are the symptoms of E. Coli?

Most that develop an infection from this strain of E. Coli will experience dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps within days of consuming a contaminated product. While it normally does not develop into a serious medical problem for a healthy person, it can be fatal for those with compromised immune systems and/or the very young and very old as E. Coli can lead to kidney failure if it becomes serious.
