I wish I had been there so I could have waved at it when it drove by. There's photographic evidence that the Google car was in Missouri during the great total solar eclipse of 2017 and that evidence comes from Google itself.

I wish I could say that I was the guy that discovered this, but that would be lying (and I don't lie...much). I saw this interesting catch by The Daily Mail. They noticed something weird about the Google Street View in Maryland Heights, Missouri in August of 2017.

If you'd like to see this for yourself, there are two things you need to do after you go to 1970 McKelvey Hill Drive in Maryland Heights, Missouri on Google Street View. You need to click on the "See More Dates" in the top left so it shows you the different years at the bottom. The one you're looking for is August 2017.

Once you do that, click to move up the street and you'll see this image. The sun is still shining...for a moment.

However, if you click ahead one more block, you're now in the darkness of the historic total solar eclipse of August 2017.

Creepy, right? It figures that the Google cars which seem to always be somewhere would have been in the St. Louis area during totality of the 2017 total solar eclipse.

Here's a pro-tip you didn't ask for Google. You might want to be in Cape Girardeau in April of 2024 taking street pics because that's the next total solar eclipse we'll be able to see in America. You are welcome.
