The definition depends on who you ask, but generally speaking it's a blend of African, European, and Native American culinary influences. Healthline says it's food that "prioritizes flavor and comfort". No offense intended, but when I think of flavor and comfort, St. Louis isn't the first place that comes to mind, but that's just me.

A new ranking of the best soul food places in America by Love Food says the most popular is this place on a street corner in St. Louis

Gourmet Soul located at 1620 Del Mar Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri bills itself as the #1 soul food place in the big city and it seems many agree with them.

TripAdvisor says that New Orleans is one of the best destinations for soul food since it is thought of as a southern pleasure, but maybe they need to add St. Louis to the list. If it's not there already, it's headed that direction.
