In a press release today, the Missouri Department of Conservation said that hunters have harvested 93,355 deer so far after just the opening weekend. That's a lot of venison.

According to one of the program supervisors, the suddenly cooling weather helped:

“After a mild start to the month of November, the weather sure turned colder just in time for opening weekend,” said MDC Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle. “Although Saturday was a bit blustery, we had some good conditions, overall, for opening weekend this year and the long-term forecast looks very good at this point as well.”

As the Missouri Department of Conservation pointed out, the firearms part of deer season continues through November 22 then it will be archery's turn along with turkey season.

They also announced that their Share the Harvest program is open where hunters can donate their harvests that will help feed those in need. They estimate that "200,000 people in need each month through over 200 outlets" are provided for through this program.
