A Nearly 42-Year-Old Illinois Cold Case May Finally Have Closure
It was April in 1983 when an Illinois woman and her car disappeared. When a vehicle was just pulled from the Fox River in Illinois this week, it means her family may soon have closure about what happened to her.
CBS News is reporting that the Kane County Coroner's Office has confirmed that a skeleton was found in a car that was pulled out of the Fox River in Illinois. Fox 32 in Chicago shared video of the vehicle recovery.
Karen Schepers disappeared on April 16, 1983 according to a post by the Elgin Police Department on their Facebook page more than a decade ago. Her friends saw her at a bar at around 1am when she left and was never heard from again. Her bank account showed no activity so there's no indication she was robbed at the time.
What is interesting about this case is People.com is reporting that Karen's disappearance was just shared on a podcast days before her car was located.
The reports say it may take weeks to positively confirm the identity of the skeleton found in the car, but hopefully her family can have some closure knowing what happened to Karen during the early morning hours of April 16 in 1983.
