It's always nice to see a local community receive recognition from a national publication. This week, USA Today published Idyllic America: Picturesque towns in each state, a photo gallery featuring one picturesque town for each state in the country. Hannibal was chosen to represent Missouri.

"Each and every state has a unique look and feel.," says USA Today. "Here, we look at picturesque small towns – one for each of the 50 states – as discovered through research and crowdsourcing."

For Missouri's neighboring states, Galena made the list for Illinois; Bellevue was the selection for Iowa; El Dorado for Arkansas; and Cottonwood Falls, with a population of less than 900, was the choice for Kansas.

This is not the first time Hannibal has received national recognition. Over the summer, Clemens Field, home of the Hannibal Cavemen, was reviewed positively by Ballpark Digest, and the Big River Steampunk Festival was among 23 Fun Labor Day Celebrations in the Midwest You Need to Check Out from BLT: The Blog For Lifestyle and Travel. Last year, America's Hometown was one of the Most Exciting Places in Missouri, according to Movoto.
