One of Quincy's finest is currently perched atop the Dunkin' Donuts on Broadway, and it's leaving many people scratching their heads as to why.

It all has to do with the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois.

For the past 14 years, law enforcement officers have "staked out" Dunkin Donuts rooftops throughout Illinois to raise awareness and donations for the Torch Run. Last year's total donations came to $672,000. Officers hope to top that amount as they head to 274 Dunkin Donuts locations across the state, including ours in Quincy at 2602 Broadway.

Each guest who visits the Quincy Dunkin Donuts and makes a donation to the Torch Run will receive a free donut coupon.  The first 72 guests donating at least $10 will receive a Law Enforcement Torch Run travel mug and a coupon for free medium coffee.  Other items, such as Torch Run T-shirts and raffle tickets, will be sold for various donation amounts.

To help support the cause, Dunkin Donuts will donate $15,000 to the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run, according to a press release.

The Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run® is the single largest year-round fundraising vehicle benefiting Special Olympics Illinois. The Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run® has raised more than $43 million over 31 years while increasing awareness of Special Olympics Illinois athletes and their accomplishments.
