After filing for bankruptcy in 2017, the one time retail giant Toys R Us has announced that they'll be closing 180 stores nationwide including several right here in the Tri-States.

Impacted stores in Missouri include the following locations:

  • 1901 Bernadette, Columbia MO
  • 201 Silver Springs Rd., Cape Girardeau MO
  • 5590 St. Louis Mills Blvd., Bridgeton MO
  • 220 THF Blvd., Chesterfield MO

Illinois stores that will be closing include:

  • 1610 Deerfield Rd., Highland Park IL
  • 16 East Golf Rd., Schaumburg IL
  • 295 Center Drive, Vernon Hills IL
  • 5001 Lincoln Highway, Matteson IL
  • 6420 W. Fullerton, Bricktown IL
  • 7750 South Cicero Avenue, Burbank IL
  • 5660 Touhy Avenue, Niles IL

The chairman of Toys R Us hopes that by closing these stores, the company can focus on the remaining stores and on-line orders. Closures of the 180 stores will start in February and the company expects that all 180 stores will be closed by mid-April.

I remember going into Toys R Us Stores and singing the jingle that we all know, "I Don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys R Us Kid." But I guess all those kids grew up and know are buying their toys for their kids online or somewhere else. I'm sad to see these stores close. It could be the beginning of the end of the toy chain.
