I used to work as a server in a restaurant here in Quincy, and every time a complete stranger would pay for someone else's meal I would be reminded that there are still good people in the world. I never thought that kind of thing would happen to me, but I was wrong.

I would see it over and over again working as a server; complete strangers telling me that they would like to pay for someone else's meal. Sometimes it'd be a veteran or a mother with kids, but not always. It was always great to see that the goodness in people (especially this time of year) is alive and kicking.

Yesterday, after an extremely long day at work followed by my daughter's dance class, I was down to my last bar of energy. I just figured we'd just grab something quick for dinner and head home. We stopped in a local pizza restaurant and enjoyed a few slices over talks of how each of our crazy days went.

After dinner, I asked the server for our check. She gave me the receipt and told me that our dinner had been paid for. Confused at first, I explained that I had not yet paid. That's when she gave me this letter...

So to the person who covered the Cassano's ticket for a very tired mother and her two kids last night, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You've reminded me not only that there are kind people in Quincy, but that this is the true meaning of the holiday. And I promise, I will pay it forward.
