Thompson Square is having a banner year. The husband-wife duo made up of Shawna and Keifer Thompson has been criss-crossing the country, opening sold-out shows for Lady Antebellum‘s Own the Night World Tour. And on Saturday night (April 1) they scored an upset victory over Sugarland when they were named Vocal Duo of the Year a day prior to the 2012 ACM Awards. In light of all this success, the duo has decided not to stop now: They’re currently in the early stages of creating their sophomore album.

Of course, it’s not easy to find time to write and record when you’re basically living out of a tour bus. The jam-packed Lady A tour, coupled with the devastating loss of Shawna’s father, has kept country’s newest sensation emotionally and physically exhausted. But that hasn’t stopped them from creating a new album with even more energy than the first.

“We’re writing, and we’re recording a lot of demo vocals right here on this very bus,” said Keifer in a recent interview with the Boot. “It’s going great. This record will be better than the first one, I can tell you that.”

Shawna added that this new record will be fun and upbeat, which she attributes to the couples’ experience rocking out on stage with Lady A this year. After all, you can’t command a sold-out stadium without putting on an energetic performance.

Unfortunately, Thompson Square fans shouldn’t hold their breath in anticipation of getting the new album in hand. The dynamic duo says their first single won’t hit until January 2013, and the new album won’t be available until at least April 2013. In the mean time, you can get your Thompson Square fix if one of the Own the Night World Tour shows comes to a city near you.
