  • Lovelace Arrested for Murder

    Former prosecutor Curtis Lovelace was arrested in August and charged with the murder of his wife, Cory Lovelace, who was found dead in the couple's home on Valentine's Day in 2006. The case has been covered by national news outlets like the Huffington Post and Fox News. In an interview with Greta Van Susteren, Quincy Police Chief Rob Copley said that a “fresh set of eyes” by a new detective, and a review of Cory Lovelace’s original autopsy by “several experts” led to the arrest.

  • Quincy Girl Appears on 'The Voice'

    'The Voice' did what none of its competitors could do. It took the top spot as America's favorite singing competition from 'American Idol.' The popular NBC series featured some local talent last winter. Quincy Senior High School student Savana Santos was one of only 110 contestants nationwide to earn an audition in front of celebrity judges Shakira, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Usher.

  • Newcomb Hotel Suspect Faces New Charges

    Matthew Clark, who plead guilty to setting the fire that destroyed the Newcomb Hotel in 2013, found himself again in trouble while on probation. Clark was arrested in August and accused of stealing a number of vehicles and heavy equipment, and setting fire to a truck stolen from Transitions.

  • New Schools Coming to Quincy

    In November, the citizens of Illinois elected a new governor, and in the same election Quincy voters chose to build new schools when the $89 million Quincy Public Schools bond referendum has passed by a 2-to-1 margin.

  • Ryan Hutmacher Wins on 'The Chew'

    Quincy native Ryan Hutmacher, who is now a chef working in Chicago, was chosen to compete in the 'Search for the Weight Watchers Chef' on the ABC series 'The Chew.' Hutmacher won the competition on the February 19 telecast. He earned a $75,000 grand prize, and a one-year consulting contract with Weight Watchers.

  • Home Invasions in Quincy

    A couple of home invasion stories made headlines in 2014. The first took place at a home at 9th and Locust in July. A manhunt for the suspects ensued, leading to a lock down of the Illinois Veterans Home. 18-year-old James Phillips and 23-year-old Chadwick Kelly were taken into custody for the crime.

    The second home invasion case came in November in the 300 block of Cedar. Victims reported three young black men entered the home and demanded money. One of the victims was hurt when he was struck with a hand gun. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the case: 22-year-old Marnell Fulton of Chicago, 23-year-old Lacey Delcour of Payson, 26-year-old Murquise Wooden and 21-year-old Roy Parker, both of Quincy.
