The Quincy Mall May Have A New Tenant
Well it looks like the 90,000 square foot former JC Penney building may have a new tenant, but do we really need another on of these stores in the Tri-State Area?
The Quincy Plan Commission has approved a national furniture retailer to buy the former JC Penney building located at the Quincy Mall. The national furniture company, which name has not been released yet, will acquire the 90,000 square foot space, remodel half of the building to fit their furniture needs and rent out the other half to other tenants. The Quincy City Council will vote Monday night on the agreement.
Last week I put up a poll on what the "consumer" you would like to have in the former JC Penney building. Olive Garden topped the list, although that would fit more into the TGI Fridays vacant restaurant. Several of you voted for Target, Gordmans, Forever 21, Red Robin, and a handful of businesses that would do well in the Tri-State Area.
The Tri-States has nine furniture stores that I have counted: Sit Tight, Sleep Tight, Mattress Firm, Ashley Furniture, Harvey's Furniture, Wright Furniture, Browns Furniture, Big Lots, Sears and oh yeah a little thing called the internet. So why do we need another national furniture store? That is the million dollar question.
