I don't tend to talk about racing on my radio show as much as I used to a few years ago.  Like many folks that have loved Nascar over the years, I have kind of lost interest since they made all the changes to the cars that made everything...well, kind of boring.  But there's no escaping this is the best day of racing you will see in 2012.  The Indy 500 will be rolling in the next couple hours and tonight, it's 600 miles of Nascar in the Coca Cola 600.

When I was a kid, I would watch the entire Indy 500 cheering on the Andretti's and Rahal's that would take a swing at winning the thing.  When those guys retired, I had a hard time caring since I really didn't know any of the drivers that replaced them.  Good news for me is that a new crop of Andretti's and Rahal's are in the Indy 500 again.  (Graham Rahal and Marco Andretti) And, I'm all in for Marco Andretti to win it.  Several so-called experts have predicted he has the best chance of anyone in the field.  Apparently these jokers aren't aware of the Andretti family history in the Indy 500, but I hope they're right.

For the Coca Cola 600 tonight, it's no secret what car I'll be screaming my lungs out for...the 88 of Dale Earnhardt Jr.  If you don't follow Nascar (and I don't blame you if you don't these days), you probably don't know or care that Dale Jr is contending for a championship.  Truth is though (as a loyal Dale Jr fan), I don't care about the fact that he's 2nd or 3rd in the points until he wins a race.  Tonight in his home state of North Carolina would be the perfect place for that to happen.

Regardless of who you have in each of the races today, IMHO there is no better day of racing all year.  Grab whatever type of refreshment you enjoy...sit back and enjoy the ride today.  Hopefully, all the drivers will be healthy when it's all said and done...and if it's not too much to ask, I'd prefer to have an Andretti and a Earnhardt holding trophies when Memorial weekend Sunday is over.
