I almost wrote that headline as "Running of the Turkeys" but the thought of a stampeding herd of turkeys is slightly terrifying. So let's never speak of "Running of the Turkeys" again, and continue to refer to it as the Turkey Run, because HEY! Would you look at that. Registration is now open for the 39th Annual Turkey Run.

Turkey... obviously.

The year was 1979, and only two dozen runners, obviously inspired by the 1978 classic WKRP in Cincinnati episode "Turkeys Away," lined up on a cold Thanksgiving morning to run off all the pounds they were about to pack on. In the nearly four decades since, participation has gone from 25 to over 3,000 participants of all ages. The whole family can take part in the one mile fun run, 5K walk, 5K or 10K runs or swims. So many events to choose from.

Registration is open now at the YMCA website, and proceeds from this annual fundraiser go to YMCA youth development programs. Individual registrations are $30, family of four for $60, both prices are if you register by November 8th. After the 8th, and right up until Thanksgiving morning, the price goes up by $10 each. So register early!
