Yesterday, as I came through Hannibal on McMasters Avenue, I witnessed a vehicle that was photographed by a red light camera, as it sped through the intersection. I know that the City of Hannibal had red light cameras installed a few years back on McMasters/Highway 61.

No doubt, there were problems with folks heading through town at speeds above the posted limit.  Since the cameras were installed, there have been people that have stated that the purpose of the cameras was about improving safety, also with the added benefit of increased revenue collected from the violations.

According to the Hannibal Police Department's website, the number of traffic crashes at the intersections where the red light cameras have been installed have decreased, which is a good thing.

So what are your thoughts about red light cameras? Should Quincy consider using them as well?

Let us know what you think.
