Storm Recovery Information You Need to Know

Recovery information continues to pour in today as the City of Quincy and surrounding area cleans up from the massive storm that struck the area Monday. In no particular order, here are some items you need to know in your own particular recovery effort.

There will not be household trash pick up for the rest of the week in the City of Quincy. Pick up will resume on Monday, July 20 on the regular days.

The City of Quincy encourages you to verify your contractor before you hire. You can contact the City of Quincy Engineering Department at 217-228-4527 before you hire a contractor to verify if the contractor is licensed with the State of Illinois to do business. City of Quincy urges citizens not to pay for work until it is completed.

The All America City Presentation that was scheduled tonight, July 15 at Quincy University McHugh Theatre has been postponed. A rescheduled date has not been established.

Power has restored to the YMCA and we will open at 8 a.m. There will not be child care today, but will resume on Thursday. We welcome anyone that needs a hot shower to stop by the Y.

Power has been restored at the Kroc Center, and it has re-opened for fitness, recreational, and all other regular programming including Camp Kroc Summer Day Camp, on Wednesday, July 15. Regular business hours will apply, opening at 5 a.m. and closing at 10 p.m..

If the heat index is above 90 degrees, they will also provide a seating area as a cooling center during regular Kroc Center hours, 5a to 10p. The Salvation Army also provides a cooling center at their Family Services Center at 501 Broadway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Salvation Army will provide free community meals again today for those in need who were affected by the severe weather this week. The location will be at the Family Services Center at 501 Broadway. (Not at the Kroc Center.) Lunch will be served from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Dinner will be served from 5p until 6:30p.

The Adams County Emergency Management Services is recommending that residents without power for 4 or more hours need to dispose of all refrigerated food. Dumpsters for residential food are located in Quincy at: JWCC athletic field, 1301 S 48th Street,  Quincy Mall Northeast Parking lot, behind the mall, Quincy Park District office, 1231 Bonansinga Drive, Quincy University Stadium, 1300 N. 18th Street, the QND parking lot and John Wood Community College  on 48^th Street. Dumpsters have also been placed in Payson at the Village Maintenance Facility located at Perkins and Washington and in Plainville on the west side of the Village Hall on Park Street.

Quincy residents have two options to dispose of downed trees and vegetation debris. The debris may be hauled to Evans Recycling at 711 W Radio Road or placed in the City of Quincy right of way. When placing the debris in the right of way residents need to keep debris away from intersections. These options are for yard debris only. No trash or building debris.
