Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has issued a warning to residents of the state about a telephone came involving criminals claiming to represent Microsoft or other IT companies. Monday afternoon, the Quincy Police Department issued a release saying that they have been receiving calls from local residents complaining of this scam.

According to QPD, the caller tells victims they are from Microsoft or other computer companies, and claims that they have found viruses and problems on the victim’s computer and want to help fix them. The caller asks for credit card or bank information as a payment for fixing the computer, and requests remote access to victim's computer.

If you receive a call such as this, hang up and do not give the caller any personal/financial information, and do not grant the caller access to your computer.

You may contact Detective Adam Gibson at 217-592-3604 for further information.
