There’s something special happening with this year’s Quincy University football team.

With a 40-14 victory in their GLVC opener against Lincoln, the 2016 Hawks became the first QU team to start a season at 3-0 since the ’93 squad went undefeated at 9-0.

Stepping into the starting quarterback role, redshirt-sophomore Robbie Kelley had a lot of people talking after leading the Hawks to a 38-35 victory against Division I FCS Drake University in week one and taking home GLVC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Not bad for Kelley’s first EVER collegiate start.

Linebacker Cody Leonard was named the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week after the showing at Lincoln in which the sophomore had eight tackles and a quarterback sack, leading a defense that held the Blue Tigers to minus 38 yards rushing.

The Hawks’ three wins this season matches their total from the 2015 campaign (3-7).

Hawks take on the also undefeated Southwest Baptist Bearcats this Saturday at QU Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 1:00.
