QPS Introduces Before & After School Programs for Students

With the change in Quincy Public Schools' start time for the 2018-2019 school year, many parents are now trying to figure out how to adjust and get their kids to school. To make things a little easier, Quincy Public Schools is helping with a before and after school child care program.

I was freaking out a little last week when it was announced that change in school time. I didn't know how the heck was I going to get my kids to school at that time. QPS acknowledged the need for parents and is now offering a new program for enrolled K-5 students and parents.

A trial run of the before and after school child care program was tested at the new Lincoln-Douglas school this past school year. It must have tested well because QPS has decided to now open the program to all students enrolled in QPS elementary schools (K-5).

A lot of the comments on our Facebook post from a couple days ago had parents concerned, so I'm glad that this program is now available. If you are interested, you better be quick on enrolling your children as space fill up on a first come first serve basis and space is limited.

Before school care will begin one hour prior to school doors opening and the after school care lets out at 5:30 pm. On days that school is dismissed early (due to weather or any other reason), there will be no After School Child Care. The program will offer homework assistance, arts and crafts, games, and even a quiet corner for those students who want to read or do homework. The program costs just $4 per hour per child for before and after school care.

To enroll for the program you must pay a one time non-refundable fee of $25 and fill out all the paper work (per child) and return your fee and complete forms to Stephanie Dickens at the Board of Education office (1414 Maine).
