The Quincy Park District weeks ago announced that they were going to build a new park next to the site of the new offices for the Park District on Bonansinga Drive. With that announcement came the word that the Park District would be soliciting potential names from the public.

That part of the process of naming the new park ended Friday, which was the last day to enter a name for consideration.  Now the Park Board will review all of the entries and narrow the name list down to a precious few at which point the public will be able to vote to decide the winning name for the new park.  According to the Park Board that narrow list will be made available later this week with the voting to take place immediately thereafter.

In case you missed my earlier blog on this topic, I thought the name of Elvin Tappe would be a perfect name. (Elvin's brother, Melvin Tappe, already has a ball field named after him at the YMCA).  Elvin was a former major league ballplayer and manager for the Chicago Cubs. Although the name of Tappe Park would also be great in that it would include both Tappe Brothers as well. Hopefully, the Tappe name will be one of the finalist for the voting ahead.

Make sure you check out the Quincy Park District's web page later this week at www.quincyparkdistrict.com and vote.
