Being a parent is hard enough, but in this age of technology it's extremely hard. There are apps out there that all parents need to be aware of.

With summer vacation officially here, kids will most likely be on their phones or tablets more for the next few weeks. But there are some dangerous apps out there that parents need to be aware of. Did you know that there was an app for bullying? Not about reporting bullying mind you, but an actual app designed to make bullying other kids easier. It's called Sarahah. There are texting apps, dating apps, photo/streaming apps, and live streaming apps that all parents should be aware of.

Texting Apps:

  • Whats App
  • Viber
  • Telegram
  • Chomp
  • Textra
  • Groupme
  • Nextplus (used to be Textplus)
  • Textme

Dating Apps (I had no idea, but there are dating apps for children):

  • Omgle – they promote this app as talking to strangers.
  • Yubo (used to be Yolo)
  • Meetme
  • ChatRoulette

To be protect your children from accessing apps they shouldn't be, it's best to password protect everything. There are some great websites to read more about how to protect your kids from dangerous apps including netsmartz.org/Home & internetmatters.org. Definitely worth a read if you have little ones at home.
