My actual first car was a 1966 Chrysler Newport. But after I purchased it without a battery, I parked it for several months. When I finally was able to drive it (for 3 blocks) I noticed a freeze plug had blown, so I junked it... which is why I really consider this my first car:

My first car was a 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88. This car wasn't a complete piece of junk - it ran, but boy was it ugly...and I loved it! I bought it from a corner used car lot just south of the L tracks on Western Ave. for only $250. June 1985 through June 1986 was an exciting time for me because of this car.

One of the good memories I have took place in the winter of 85/86. There was a day that was extremely cold. I remember everyone on the block not being able to start their cars, but mine started on the first try. Still makes me smile when I think about it.

The reason I write about this today is because I saw my car today. No, not the old brown, beat up Delta 88 which ended up getting junked by the City of Chicago in 1986. No, this was much nicer. Purple, without a dent, ding, or scratch, driving down Broadway in Quincy.

Do you remember your first car, and do you get flooded with memories when you see one drive down the road today. Please share with me below.

Also: if you know who owns this purple 1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88 in the Quincy area, let me know. I'd like to take a ride down Broadway in it...if they will let me.
