A celebration of life event will take place on Sept. 14 in Troy Gentry's honor. Fans are invited to attend or watch via an online stream.

Gentry's celebration of life service will be held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville beginning at 11AM; a livestream of the event will be available via the Opry's official website. A private internment, for family only, will follow the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, Gentry's family is asking that those who wish to express their condolences make donations to the TJ Martell Foundation or support the Red Cross' hurricane relief efforts. Gentry was a big supporter of the TJ Martell Foundation, as well as the Make-a-Wish Foundation and some military-focused charities, and supported breast cancer awareness and research charities.

Gentry, of Montgomery Gentry, was killed Friday afternoon (Sept. 8) in a helicopter crash in Medford, N.J.; he and duo partner Eddie Montgomery were scheduled to perform there that evening. The helicopter was in distress and was approaching an airport when it crashed; according to 9-1-1 audio, the helicopter was experiencing “mechanical issues” prior to crashing, and went down as emergency crews arrived at the scene.

Country Artists Remember Troy Gentry

“It is with great sadness that we confirm that Troy Gentry, half of the popular country duo, Montgomery Gentry, was tragically killed in a helicopter crash,” a press release from Average Joes Entertainment, Montgomery Gentry's record label, shared on Friday afternoon. “Details of the crash are unknown. Troy Gentry’s family wishes to acknowledge all of the kind thoughts and prayers, and asks for privacy at this time.”

Gentry was removed from the wreckage at the scene but was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. Montgomery was at the airport when the helicopter crashed, along with members of their band, and they were taken to the hospital to see Gentry. In addition to Gentry, the helicopter’s pilot, James Evan Robinson, died in the crash. Crews worked for hours to remove his body from the wreck.

"Known for his wide smile, Gentry was personally driven by faith, family and living life to the fullest," Gentry's official obituary reads. "One of his favorite Bible verses was Deuteronomy 31:6, which says, 'Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For it is the Lord your God who goes with you; He will not leave you or forsake you.'"
