In what is a pretty cleverly done spoof of political styled 'attack ads,' the Milwaukee Brewers have gone after St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina. The ad is an attempt to garner votes for the Brewers own catcher, Jonathon Lucroy, for the upcoming All-Star Game in Minneapolis.

The ad not only makes the case for Lucroy to be the National League starter, it 'attacks' Molina with lines like 'Do you want another St. Louis Cardinal to star in an All-Star game? Isn't there a better way?' That particular line in the ad even comes complete with the sound of a baby crying. The ad goes on to say 'not only is Jonathon Lucroy the best catcher in the National League, most importantly he's not a St. Louis Cardinal.' (granted, Cardinals fans are less likely to agree or possibly laugh at the humor)

While the popular Cardinals catcher is pretty much a shoe in to be voted in as the mid summer classics starting catcher (he has a sizable lead in voting), Lucroy does currently boast better statistics. Lucroy is batting .340 to Molina's .283. Lucroy also has 8 home runs and 37 RBI's compared to Molina's 6 home runs and 26 RBI's. Lucroy also has the best WAR (wins above replacement) in both leagues. Still, the Brewers back stop is running third in fan voting behind Molina and the San Fransisco Giants' Buster Posey.

Will the Brewers' ad make much of a difference in further fan voting? Probably not, but only time will tell. At the very least it's getting plenty of attention for their catcher and being enjoyed a lot by fans of teams other than the Cardinals.

Click here to see the ad. I'm going to head over to cast my votes for Jonathon Lucroy. (I'm not a Cardinals fan... sorry.) :)
