Prominent Adams County citizens are being accused of “having a big heart” and helping those in their county fight muscle disease. They’re volunteering to be “arrested and serve time” in “Fun Jail” at  The State Room in Quincy on November 21 in an effort to raise money for the local Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

The Lock-Up is an annual social event dedicated to raising money to support over 40 local children and adults in the Adams County area living with neuromuscular diseases. All funds raised stay in the area, so participants and contributors will directly help the local Adams County community members with such great services as:

  • MDA clients residing in the Adams County area can attend any of the six monthly MD/ALS Support Groups located locations throughout Central Illinois.
  • Adams County area clients have the option of attending any three of the MDA Clinics in central Illinois including: the Peoria MDA Clinic located at INI Neurology at OSF , 100 NE Randolph Avenue, Peoria; the Champaign MDA Clinic at the Carle Spine Institute, 610 N. Lincoln Avenue, Urbana; and the Springfield MDA Clinic located at the SIU Medical Building, 751 N Rutledge, Springfield; where they are referred to specialists such as: a genetic specialist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, nutritionist, and an orthopedic specialist.
  • MDA serves over 40 individuals in the Adams County area and 1024 in central Illinois.
  • MDA Summer Camp Provides a week of fun personalized activities for children with a neuromuscular disease at no cost to their families.  The Central Illinois MDA Camp is located at Timber Point Outdoor Center, Hudson, IL and last year we had 55 campers.

Anyone interested in participating in this MDA Lock-Up or in nominating someone to participate can contact the local MDA office at 217-351-1853 or email Jon Durney at jdurney@mdausa.org.
