Little Big Town’s Ryman Residency Earns Them Best Theater Act in 2018 Golden Mic Awards
In 2017, Little Big Town did something a bit different: They opted to skip a full-scale tour and instead schedule a residency at Nashville's famed Ryman Auditorium. Dubbed Little Big Town at the Mother Church, the residency was announced in late 2016, then expanded in early 2017 due to popularity. And now, The Boot's readers have voted the country quartet Best Theater Act in the 2018 Golden Mic Awards because of the series.
Little Big Town played a total of eight shows at the Ryman in 2017, bringing with them a variety of special guests: Miranda Lambert and Maren Morris both made appearances, as did Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley. The residency allowed LBT to play their hits, of course, but also to share covers and other special moments -- for example, at one show in mid-September, a tribute to the then-recently deceased Troy Gentry.
In September, Little Big Town were added to the Music City Walk of Fame, in part due to their history-making Ryman residency.
“As musicians, there is no better feeling in the world than playing on the stage at the Ryman,” says LBT's Jimi Westbrook. “To be given the opportunity to headline their first residency means so much to us as a band, and we promise to make each night as memorable for the fans as possible.”
In the Best Theater Act 2018 Golden Mic Awards poll, Little Big Town earned just over 38 percent of the votes. They were competing against, among others, Sam Hunt, Sturgill Simpson and Kelsea Ballerini.
