Authorities in Lewis County report a couple of phone scams making the rounds.

According to Sheriff David Parrish, his office has received multiple reports in the last week of scam artists identifying themselves as IRS representatives. The called tries to convince the intended victim they owe the IRS money and need to call a separate number. Then they try to get the victim to send money through Western Union or some other means.

A second scam involves the caller trying to convince the intended victim they owe money for a bill. They then try to intimidate the victim into sending money through Western Union and threatening to send the Sheriff’s office to arrest them.

Sheriff Parrish reminds the public to never give personal information over the phone unless you have requested the call or verified who’s on the other end of the line.
