KICK-FM Announcers and Listeners Aren’t Very Good at Predicting ACM Award Winners
The ACM Awards are always fun to watch, and it's also always fun to try and predict the winners in each category. You would think that between the "professional" announcers at a country radio station, and the dedicated country music fans that listen to that radio station, those predictions should be pretty reliable, right? Wrong.
Before the ACM Awards, Brian and I shared our picks. We also asked listeners over the last several weeks to vote for the artists that they thought would win. Here's how we did. It wasn't so great.
Entertainer of the Year
Brian - Miranda Lambert
Kurt - Garth Brooks
Listeners - Miranda Lambert
Winner - Luke Bryan
Male Vocalist of the Year
Brian - Luke Bryan
Kurt - Eric Church
Listeners - Blake Shelton
Winner - Jason Aldean
Female Vocalist of the Year
Brian - Miranda Lambert
Kurt - Miranda Lambert
Listeners - Carrie Underwood
Winner - Miranda Lambert
Vocal Group of the Year
Brian - Little Big Town
Kurt - Lady Antebellum
Listeners - The Band Perry
Winner - Little Big Town
There were also a couple of categories that Brian and I made picks for that were not a part of our listener survey. We (and by "we" I mean Brian) had a little more luck with these. Here are the results.
New Artist of the Year
Brian - Cole Swindell
Kurt - Sam Hunt
Winner - Cole Swindell
Album of the Year
Brian - Miranda Lambert 'Platinum'
Kurt - Miranda Lambert 'Platinum'
Winner - Miranda Lambert 'Platinum'
Song of the Year
Brian - Miranda Lambert 'Automatic'
Kurt - Eric Church 'Give Me Back My Hometown'
Winner - Miranda Lambert 'Automatic'
Overall, of the major categories, Brian and I were able to both accurately predict Miranda Lambert in the Female Vocalist of the Year category (one of the easiest categories to pick). Brian also got Vocal Group of the Year right. None of us - not Brian, not me, not the listeners - were able to predict Entertainer of the Year or Male Vocalist of the Year.
The moral of the story? If you attend the ACM Awards the next time the ceremony is in Las Vegas, don't make bets based on our picks!
