I remember my days as a Cub Scout. Running around the forests of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, learning how to camp, build fires, tie knots. I had quite the collection of pocket knives growing up. If you've got a kid who wants to join the scouts, now's the time to check them out.

Tonight, August 30th from 5p-7:30p in the old K-Mart parking lot, all the Quincy area troops will be out showing off the best of scouting, and helping acclimate your child to sign up. Scouts are open to kids kindergarten through 5th grade, and as of earlier this year, open to both boys and girls. On hand will be an inflatable BB gun range, an inflatable archery range, so the can get their feet wet on all the fun activities.

They'll even have a mobile Scout Shop on site so if you sign up right there, you'll be able to get all your scouting needs so your kids can hit the ground running. This will be specifically for the Quincy area, with other areas having their own recruitment events. For more information, visit the Mississippi Valley Council Boy Scouts website.
