Last week, Joey + Rory fans on Facebook saw a photo of Joey Martin Feek playing with her 1-year-old daughter, Indiana. Now, there’s video. Rory Feek put together a few clips of his wife slowly walking from her home hospice bed to their living room, where she found her daughter waiting for her.

Rory shares how difficult it is for Joey to get out of bed and walk. “But I guess the power-of-the-will is much stronger than the power of fear,” he writes at the This Life I Live blog.

Honestly, I think Joey just got tired of listening to life going on in the rooms outside of her bedroom and tired of wondering what it would be like to be part of it… and she just had her sister Jody help her out of bed and she came out and sat down and joined in for about an hour and a half.

Visiting friends and family were surprised and proud. Joey moved from the bedroom to a couch, then from the couch to the floor, where she was able to spend a rare moment being a mother to Indiana. They played, and she taught sign language “like she’d been dreaming of being able to do.”

For Joey, life and the end of life fears have all come into perspective, Rory says. The 40-year-old has learned to appreciate the moment she’s living in without worrying about how much time she has left. Rory closes by recognizing that Joey may not look like the same singer to her fans, but to him ...

Yes, she’s a few years older and the chemo and radiation have taken their toll on her physical body.  But the same joy in her spirit and the same beautiful smile is still there, shining through.

Cancer can’t take that away from her.

Joey Feek has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. In October she decided to stop medical treatment and has been living in hospice since early November. It’s not clear how much time doctors believe she has left, but she’s made it a goal to live through February 17, her daughter’s second birthday.
