Illinois. The most populous state to start with a vowel. The home state of tennis icon Jimmy Connors. And now, to add to its accolades, the fifth most fun state in these United States.

At least according to WalletHub, it is. WalletHub put out its list of of the most fun states, measured by several metrics including per-capita restaurants, movie theatres, golf courses, performing arts centers, skiing facilities and more. I don't think we did well in the skiing facilities category. But the Top 10 shook out as such:

1. California
2. New York
3. Nevada
4. Florida
5. Illinois (THAT'S US!)
6. Washington
7. Texas
8. Colorado
9. Pennslyvania
10. Minnesota

On the flip side, Arkansas, Rhode Island, Delaware, Mississippi and West Virginia were the least fun states, with West Virginia ranking #50. I was surprised to see Kansas rank #41. As a former resident of Kansas, I would have thought it would rank WAY lower.

As for the rest of the Tri-State region, Missouri cracked the Top 15 at #14, while Iowa unfortunately only barely made the Top 30 at #29.

While I can't be 100% certain, I'm sure what pushed Illinois into the Top 10 was the panel of experts stayed in Quincy last summer for the long list of festivals we have.
