B&B Main Street Cinema 8 in Hannibal will host a special screening of the new documentary 'Farmland' on May 1.

'Farmland' is the latest film from Academy Award winner James Moll, which focuses on young farmers and ranchers from across the United States. Agriculture is not typically a subject that Hollywood filmmakers focus their efforts on, but Moll's curiostiy about America's food growers led to the 'Farmland' project. He told KNEB radio that he grew up in the city and, before filming the movie, had "never stepped foot on a farm."

MOST AMERICANS HAVE NEVER STEPPED FOOT ON A FARM OR RANCH OR EVEN TALKED TO THE PEOPLE WHO GROW AND RAISE THE FOOD WE EAT. FARMLAND WILL TAKE AN INTIMATE LOOK AT THE LIVES OF FARMERS AND RANCHERS IN THEIR ‘20S, ALL OF WHOM ARE NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR RUNNING THEIR FARMING BUSINESS." - FarmlandFilm.com

'Farmland' will show for one night only in Hannibal, May 1 beginning at 7 p.m. According to 'Farmland's' website, Hannibal is among only 10 cities in Missouri that will show the movie. Four cities in Iowa will host screenings, as will five Illinois cities. Tickets are available online.

The May 1 showing of 'Farmland' is the latest in B&B Theatres' efforts to support independent films. Main Street Cinema 8 was one of a handful of theaters to host a debut screening of 'Waterwalk,' an independent film shot along the Mississippi that featured shots of America's Hometown, and the theater has also been the site of the American Artist Film Festival.
