Coincidence? Hannibal’s City Wide Garage Sale Scheduled the Weekend After ‘National Clean Out Your Garage Day’
There is a reason the saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" has become a cliche'... it's usually true. Which is a good thing, especially when it comes to garage sales! The Hannibal Area City Wide Garage Sale is coming up in September, and it just happens (or was it planned that way?) to be on the weekend following National Clean Out Your Garage Day.
According to the Hannibal Courier-Post, the City Wide Garage Sale will be Friday and Saturday, September 12 - 13. The sixth annual National Clean Out Your Garage Day is scheduled for Saturday, September 6.
"We established 'National Clean Out Your Garage Day' to occur on the first weekend after Labor Day, a time when much of America moves from summer to fall, and items such as bikes, outdoor toys, sports and camping gear, lawnmowers and garden tools are put away for the season," said Deborah Hanson, director of external affairs for The Lehigh Group (who created National Clean Out Your Garage Day). "This is a great time to take stock of the safety of your garage, and to de-clutter and re-organize as needed to make this space safer and more functional."
It looks like most of us have some cleaning to do. A survey from The Lehigh Group found that the garage is overwhelmingly the most disorganized area or room of Americans' homes, and 42% of those surveyed admitted that they've never cleaned their garage, or clean it only once per year or less.
If your garage is overdue for a cleaning, you might want to make a plan to participate in National Clean Out Your Garage Day, and then sell off
all your junk the items you no longer use during the City Wide Garage Sale. On the other hand, you could also have your garage sale while you clean out your garage, and have less stuff to put away!
