An annual event that encourages youth to be safe when they're out and about comes to the campus of the Hannibal Clinic Saturday, May 17.

The annual "Ride Cool" helmet safety event goes from 10 a.m. to noon.

Organizers will give away over 400 bicycle safety helmets, and make sure they fit properly. Kids that come also get a free t-shirt. The event also features bicycle safety inspections, obstacle courses, demonstrations by the Cool Byke Team, giveaways and more.

Nationwide, more than 500,000 people are treated in emergency rooms annually, and more than 700 people die as a result of bicycle-related injuries.
