The Crossing Church at 48th and Maine Streets in Quincy will hold their usual Thursday night service but this Thursday will be special in that former major league baseball player Darryl Strawberry will be their special guest. His appearance will be a part of The Crossing’s 5th Annual Men’s Conference which will be held on Friday and Saturday.

Strawberry, played for the World Champion New York Mets in 1986 and the World Champion New York Yankees in 1996, 1998 and 1999. He had a 17 year career in the major leagues and was an 8 time All-Star.

As good as he was on the playing field, Strawberry’s life off the field was not as good.  He was suspended three times by MLB for substance abuse. His drug abuse led to other problems as well including addictions, divorces and even jail time.

In 2003 Strawberry found his current wife, Tracy, who helped turn his life around through Jesus Christ. They met each other in a drug recovery convention. They are both driven now to lead people who are lost to find Jesus Christ as their savior.

He has established the Darryl Strawberry Foundation to help do just that. Strawberry makes numerous speaking engagements around the country and one of those stops will be Quincy beginning this Thursday. Strawberry is scheduled to be a part of this Thursday’s service at 6 p.m.  The public is invited to attend.
