Flood Warnings Continue Along the Mississippi River

Flood warnings have been posted along northeast Missouri and western Illinois' stretch of the Mississippi River.

River stages as of early Tuesday morning are above flood stage, but forecasts are not calling for anything other than minor flooding. Of course, those forecasts are subject to change, depending on rainfall here and to the north of the Hannibal/Quincy area.

Specifically, there are flood warnings until further notice on the Mississippi at Canton, Hannibal, Louisiana and Clarksville.

At Canton, the river stage at 6 a.m. Tuesday was 14.64 feet. Flood stage is 14 feet. Forecasters expect the river to rise to 15.6 Thursday afternoon, with additional rises possible.

At Hannibal, the reading at 6:15 a.m. Tuesday was 17.35 feet. Flood stage is 16 feet. The river at Hannibal is expected to rise to 18.5 feet by Friday afternoon.

At Louisiana, the stage at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday is 16.78 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The river is expected to get to 17.8 feet Saturday morning.

At Lock and Dam 24 at Clarksville, the reading at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday is 26.25 feet, which is a foot-and-a-quarter over flood stage. Forecasters say the river at Clarksville could get to 27.6 by Saturday afternoon.

In Hannibal, the river forecasts need to get above 20 feet before the flood gates along the riverfront will be installed.
