AVENUES Domestic and Sexual Violence Advocacy Services' "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event is coming up July 30 in Hannibal.  It will be a Blues and BBQ event with registration beginning at 5pm-8:30pm.  The proceeds benefit Sexual assault awareness.

We are looking for men to partner with us on a very visible awareness event that will also serve as a fund-raiser. We are looking for men who are willing to “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” ® An Internationally known program, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It is not easy for most men to walk in women’s high heel shoes, but the event promises to be fun and it will get the community talking about rape and each person’s ability to make a difference.

AVENUES’ Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ®, Blues and BBQ is schedule for Tuesday July 30th.  Prior to the event date, walkers will be provided with a walk packet and asked to obtain a minimum of $50 in sponsorships from family, friends and colleagues.

Prizes will be awarded to the individual and team that raise the most money.  There will be opportunities for “friendly competition” between First Responders who form teams.  The First Responder Team (Firemen, Police and EMT/Paramedics) who raises the most money in sponsorships will get to take home the traveling “Golden Stiletto Trophy” and come back in 2014 to defend their title.

REGISTRATION OF WALKERS AND SHOE SELECTION WILL BEGIN AT 5:00 P.M. IN CENTRAL PARK IN HANNIBAL, MISSOURI

Walkers will be provided with an entertaining tutorial on how to walk in heels and the walk will begin at 6:20 p.m.

Vendors will be set up to provide BBQ and other food items.

Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Music will begin after all walkers complete their mile.

A United Way recipient agency, AVENUES provides free confidential and non-judgmental services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in the aftermath of an assault.
