Formerly a project designer for the Illinois Main Street Program, in that role Bryjka provided architectural, design, and training services to numerous communities across the state.

As a consultant, Bryjka also has extensive practical experience in historic preservation at the local, statewide, and national levels, preparing National Register of Historic Places nominations and developing treatment recommendations for historic properties.

He continues to spearhead the “Got Mesker?” initiative, which he began with IHPA in 2004 as a first-of-its-kind effort to identify, preserve, and educate about the historic sheet-metal facades found in many of America's historic commercial districts.

A frequent public speaker, Bryjka has delivered presentations and workshops on architectural and historic preservation topics in numerous communities. He has conducted educational sessions and tours at conferences held by organizations such as the National Main Street Center, Landmarks Illinois, Illinois Main Street, the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, the Minnesota Historical Society, Minnesota Main Street, Texas Main Street, and Restore Media.
