Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum made his solo debut Tuesday night (Oct. 13) on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, but he wasn't completely alone. The newly-solo singer had friends Dierks Bentley and co-writer Eric Paslay alongside him.

"Of course I take a break with Lady A, a trio, to put out a song with a trio of dudes," Kelley jokes in Fallon's How I Wrote That Song online segment.

Kelley, Bentley and Paslay trade verses throughout "The Driver," a slow ballad with impeccable harmonies that discusses the traveling circus that life as a musician can often be. Drenched in a spotlight, Kelley's familiar vocals enter as he tells the tale of being the driver at the forefront of chasing a dream career in music.

Meanwhile, Paslay stands beside him and strums acoustic guitar before he sings of being a dreamer himself. Bentley then joins in, soulfully singing of life in the spotlight being a singer and sharing his stories with the world.

"The perspective seemed like a Crosby, Stills and Nash story song,” Kelley says of the lyrics. Learn more about the story behind the song below, and catch Kelley on his first solo tour starting Nov. 28 in Cleveland.
