Look for traffic to be shut down for a couple of hours on Tuesday crossing the Mississippi River at Louisiana. The official information from the Missouri Department of Transportation is as follows:

On Tuesday September 25, 2012 MoDOT crews will close the Champ Clark Bridge at Louisiana to perform sealing operations. Because of the narrow width of the bridge, closing the bridge is the best way to secure the safety of the workers and the traveling public. The closure will be in effect beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the work taking up to two hours. The process involves spreading oil on both lanes and immediately covering with cinders.

Flaggers will be in place for controlling traffic as well as signs at various locations along the roadway to alert motorists of the work. Please use extra caution when traveling through the work zone area after the work is complete, as there will be oil and loose rock chips on the bridge.

An annual inspection was recently performed on the bridge with no significant concerns found. The sealing operation scheduled is for routine maintenance, and not a result of any concerns with the bridge.
