Carrie Underwood is enjoying her relatively new lifestyle as a first-time mom to her 7-month-old son, Isaiah Michael, though she's still settling in. In a new interview with People, Underwood admits that while she is more "loosey-goosey" than she ever thought she’d be as a mom, she also never dreamt of being married and having children.

"I never dreamt of my wedding day and the perfect guy," she says. "Then I met Mike, and I was like, 'Wow, so now I know what I was missing."

She adds that she also never dreamt of the day she would have children. "And the same with my son. I was never like, ‘I want kids so bad,’" Underwood reveals, "And now that I have Isaiah in my life, I’m like, 'What did I do before?'"

Meanwhile, she has baby Isaiah to thank for being in better shape. "For some reason, I feel leaner after,” she says, meaning after pregnancy. “It’s really strange the way my body has reacted to exercise after having him. I feel like my bum’s a little nicer than it used to be.”

Though she's been working to reclaim her body and get back her figure post-baby, the singer shares that she's still dedicated to breastfeeding her son for “as long as I can take it."

"It’s hard," she admits. "My supply is pretty nil. We have to supplement with formula. I’m doing the best that I can, you know?"

Underwood's daily life as a mom now includes singing "stupid songs" while she changes Isaiah Michael's diaper, as well reading children's bible stories to him at bedtime with husband of five years.

The superstar will host the CMA Awards on Nov. 4 with Brad Paisley. The Underwood People cover story hits stands on Oct. 23, the same day that her Storyteller album drops.
